We're on FACEBOOK

If you follow us on facebook, than you know we are constantly updating there and infrequently updating our blog. Since that is the case - we suggest you check out our FACEBOOK PAGE for the latest and greatest in Grassroots California.

We have a handful of new products out - from artist's flat brims (have you seen the new Brownie hat? Did you snatch up the old one), to new bear releases (Cali2Miami and ProperGrass) to exciting limited editions like our first BEANIE and the 23rd ANNUAL CANNABIS CUP FLAT BRIM.

We've also got some crazy live shows we're involved with - including our homies Fresh2Death who will be playing our holiday party in San Francisco on December 17th.

And, last but not least, our art director JP is going to have a baby....so give him a big congratulations on our facebook page :D

"Yall had the sickest stand on the lot and didnt see many people not rocking GRC! Make an Umphreys Hat yo. Id love to help design it!"

Check out Biggie doing his thing at SUMMERCAMP. Who else has pictures of themselves doing their thang? And, preferably ones with you rocking Grassroots California gear please!

SUMMER OF THE ROOT

Yo yo yo yo....the SUMMER OF THE ROOT has kicked off.

It is cooking over in Illinois, where Ruga Cons and the new intern, Mr. Max, are going to be rocking at SUMMER CAMP with a whole slew of Grassroots California heads, including Mr. Kelter. Check them out. Get a ticket to SUMMER CAMP and get in your car if you are in the neighborhood. http://www.summercampfestival.com/2010/

It looks like the boys just pulled into the campgrounds and they are probably getting their sitch down. You know there are gonna be DJs spinning the Grassroots Cali booth? GRC likes to bring the party to the people cause the people make the party.

Check out our twitter page - http://twitter.com/GrassrootsCali - friend us and watch for contest opportunities and info about our parties. We already gave away our first koozie, which you can pick up at Summer Camp and all of our other festival booths including Wakarusa, Bonnaroo and more!

Massive Grassroots California Update!

Reazon of Foster The People in an Original Don Dada

A lot has been going on in Grassroots California nation....so much we haven't had time to bring you a thorough blog update. Until now.

In the last few weeks we've been hustling and bustling getting the word out about The Movement, getting our 19 page color catalogues printed, creating a line of Grassroots California papers and making sure that we could bring you a few new hats in the process.

Working backward - Boston Chronics, California State Parks and Save The Polar Bears hats should be available at www.grassrootscalifornia.com. Check our facebook and twitter pages (@grassrootscali) for updates and potential special offers.

If you hadn't heard - we sponsored the Music & Tech Mash-Up at Rusty Spurs on Tuesday March 16th and Wednesday March 17th down at SXSW in Austin, TX. We also sponsored the Rooftop Riot presented by our friends, SUPERGOODMUSIC (founded by Grassroots California's VP/Attorney - Boom D) and The Viper Room, at The Blind Pig on 6th Street on March 19th.

Music & Tech Mash-Up rocked solid for 2 days with performances from Foster The People (pictured above and below), Keith Masters, Odd Modern, Shinobi Ninja, The Dance Party, Chasing Kings, The Beatards and a handful of other rising artists. The party was fun, the patrons ate up our free rolling papers and people were really inquisitive about the company. Unfortunately, SXSW doesn't happen to be a place where people spend money as most things there are free....so the hat selling did not go very well. We got some supporters - but not the donations. Hope those people who heard about us or saw our banner come check out the site - www.grassrootscalifornia.com where we sell products that support a bunch of charities, including All As One, NORML, Red Cross and Positive Legacy, amongst others.

Turning back to the show, Keith Masters - the electro-magic, discotech, hip-hop artist whose "I Love to Floss" video we did killed it with some lyrics at The Mash-Up. Look for the I Love to Floss video soon on our site and , directed and produced by our very own RUGA CONS (CEO), the man with the plan. It features plenty of Blood Diamonds gear, as well as a few other fine Grassroots California pieces. Plus - the video also features a host of other folks on the Grassroots California Team - including Kelter, Boom D and Mr. Purple. Odd Modern, who did a remix of "I Love To Floss," knocked it down 2 straight nights for Grassroots California on the patio. You can get all their music free on their website www.oddmodern.com.

Mark Foster of Foster The People

Mark Pontius of Foster The People

The Rooftop Riot was an absolute smash too and we've got a couple pictures in this blog to prove it! Do you see how crowded it was? You can't even see our BANNER!

Andrew WK at ROOFTOP RIOT

Capacity crowd at ROOFTOP RIOT - over 400 peeps!

Foster The People @ Rooftop Riot

Foster The People opened that event as well. We really love those guys and their "Pumped Up Kicks." We were considering doing their slap bracelets and/or hats. What does Grassroots California nation think of the band? We want to know....is this indie-electro soul band a cause worthy of support? They are unsigned with a potential hit song. Should we help them spread the love? They kicked ass in Austin for SXSW (4 shows).

The rest of the line-up included, Glint, Imagine Dragons, Stardeath & White Dwarfs and of course the above featured Andrew WK. The house was packed; people were crowd surfing. Over 1000 people saw our banner!

Over on the other side of the country - there were things happening in Virginia with Ruga Cons too. After he returned from Tahoe homie threw it down with Elliot Lipp. You can check out our facebook page to see more details on that.

Update you soon on our next moves...

Grassroots California is In High Times & The Official High Times Cannabis Cup Hat

If you haven't been following our twitter or facebook accounts over the last few days, you may not have known that Grassroots California was photographed and mentioned in the April Cannabis Cup edition of High Times. As makers of the Official High Times Cannabis Cup Cap - our hat was featured in at least 3 pictures, including two pics of Slightly Stoopid. Our deal with High Times only allowed us to make 420 of the hats and we are almost sold out of them!

Pick them up from us before they are all gone. They are one of our dopest hats yet - the top has an embroidered marijuana leaf, the satin lining has print that looks like buds (different from the Smoking Trees Draining Threes marijuana leaf print), there is a stash pocket, the color scheme is agreeable AND there are only a limited number of them.

Hemp Convention This Weekend but Burgers and Beer Tonight

Today was the first day of the Hemp Convention here in Los Angeles - but Ruga Cons and I didn't go cause we were far too busy doing other stuff. Other stuff mainly being trying to get our hats into some more dispensaries (we got 1 more today!), packing up some hats for NORML for their booth at the Hemp Convention and having an intimate conversation with some of our source producers of our hats.

We were to busy to make it out to the Hemp Con...but we expect to be there in full force in the afternoon tomorrow. Come look for me (BoomD) or the notorious Ruga Cons. We'll most definitely be sporting the dopest flat brims in the building and we will be hovering near the NORML Beverly Hills booth from time to time.

That about sums up the business side of things for Grassroots California's Friday - so we took some R & R at the end of the day and went over to Father's Office on Montana in Santa Monica. This tiny premium beer bar also happens to serve one of the most dankalicious burgers you've ever tasted. The funny part is, its served by a virtual burger nazi, you can't make any substitutions or accommodations whatsoever. You can't even get it without any of its dressings. Kind of ridic....but its so delicious it is worth it. Its got like arugula, caramelized onions and gorgonzola cheese on this brioche. DTF'n eat.

The beer is also top notch top notch. They are featuring Hitachino on tap this month - so if you live in LA and you dig beer....we highly recommend you stop into the Father's Office in Santa Monica (there is another one in Culver City...not sure if they have Hitachino).

Post F.O. I went to The Roxy to check out the legendary KRS One on the microphone. The place was packed and they almost didn't let us in. Thankfully, we'd hooked some of the staff up with the Bakers snapback this past weekend at the Big Gigantic and Eliott Lipp show....so they gave me access and I got to catch some "Rapture's Delight", "Bridge Is Over", "Black Cop" and others.

All in all, a great start to Grassroots California's weekend and we hope for big successes tomorrow at the Hemp Convention. Direct message us on twitter if you are there at www.twitter.com/grassrootscali.

Inventory Schminventory

If you all want to know a job that is pretty mindless and easy to do while stoned - inventory is it.....except that you forget the count ALL THE FUCKING TIME.

I think we've counted the same hats like 3 times each now and we're still not 100% positive we've got all our numbers straight. But, we've been listening to some dope music and finding some funny ass videos on the internet in the middle of all of it.

We're really digging on this Tigga Hoods "Imma Hot Cheeto." Obviously poking fun at Tiger Woods, this Will.i.am sounding artist had us laughing all night!

Weekly Conference Call

If you didn't know, we at Grassroots California have a weekly conference call on Tuesday to discuss all things Grassroots California. It is always me (BoomD), Ruga Cons, Kelter and Michael. Occasionally someone else joins the convo too.

Anyhow, we had a lot to catch up on. We were featured in the recently released edition of High Times that discussed the Cannabis Cup. We were featured, in part, because we did the limited edition Official High Times Cannabis Cup Cap. You can still get them on our website, and despite an earlier rumor, we actually still have all sizes (that said, there were only 420 made and we are running very low on 7 1/2 and 7 3/8...so cop 'em now!).

We also wanted to discuss the STS9 hat release - Ruga and I just came e just sent out at least 20 STS9 hats. We only have about 30 left and no longer have any 7 3/8s (sorry) - so also get those from us while you still can!!! Go to their website and pester the STS9 camp about ordering more or putting in one of our other designs. I am personally a fan of the purple light explosion one that we designed....anyone else?

We are working hard on making some more moves in the music scene, including possibly going forward with sponsoring Wakarusa and confirming our sponsorship of the SUPERGOODMUSIC and The Viper Room event down at SXSW. Actually - we are having a bit of a spat over Wakarusa's numbers right now - so lets put it to a vote in the community....should we do Waka? Let us know???!?!?

Grassroots California Joins the Blogosphere!!!!!

Hey Grassroots California Peeps - we've officially decided that we're going to launch a blog. I actually was just sitting in the planning meeting and we thought what better way to keep you all plugged in on where we are, what we're doing and what new developments are going down at Grassroots California then by posting a blog?

Exactly. It's the best way to keep you informed. So, without further adieu - here is what is going down with the Grassroots California camp:

It has been a really busy week for us - we got the Blood Diamond hats and we got the Sound Tribe Sector 9 hats in this week. The STS9 hats are officially up on the website and you better get them while they are hot. They were a hot seller at their show at The Wiltern and online. We don't have too many in our stock - so go to www.grassrootscalifornia.com and get em while they are available. We've heard your cries for us to get the Diamonds up on the site and rest assured that you will be able to get them. Look for the Diamonds on our website very soon and you can also get Blood Diamonds at some of our retailers, including Kulture in Richmond, VA.

Ruga Cons came into Los Angeles for the STS9 show, amongst other things, and him and BoomD posted up at the Roosevelt for a few nights unleashing their debauchery on Room 709 with a havoc. It was about 30% champagne, 20% vodka, 15% blunts, 10% scotch, 10% red-bull, 10% pool and 5% I heart barf party.

Those two made an appearance at The Roxy on Friday night for the STS9 after party - where they decked out the crew and some of the performers with gear, specifically the LA Bakers hat. See Elliott Lipp below in Grassroots California gear below.

We also had the pleasure of meeting B.o.B. at JoJo's In Studio for 102.7 KIIS FM in Los Angeles. You may know him from his single "Nothin On You" that is currently blowing up radiowaves. We've been fans of him since his B.o.B. vs. Bobby Ray mixtape that featured some of our 2009 favorites "I'll Be In The Sky" and "Satellite." See him and BoomD below.

We're working on bringing more newness to you soon - like the Haiti Earthquake Relief slap bracelet, our plans for SXSW and news on a street team meeting in Los Angeles. Stay tuned tot the blog, follow the whole Grassroots California crew on twitter (@grassrootscali @rugacons @boomD @supergoodmusic) Holler at us at movement@grassrootscalifornia.com.
